Cracking the Code of Parent-Teen Relationships returns to live workshops in December! Parents and caregivers looking to build skills and insights into working with the teenage mind are invited to join DJ and other parents in two 2-hour workshops focused on better connections and effective communication with teens and tweens.
Inspired by nearly 20 years of clinical work with adolescents, couples, and families, DJ Hilley, MSEd, LMHC, integrated decades of research findings in the areas of intimate relationships, brain development, and the overlap between the two. The goal? Empower parents to take the lead in their relationships and to tackle challenging topics (such as sexuality, technology, academics) with confidence in their ability to stay connected and influential.
These 2-hour workshops will cover:
Session 1
Understanding the Developing Brain and why teens act the way they do.
Why Relationships between Parents & Teens Get Tricky as adolescence comes into the picture.
How to Maintain a Connected, Influential Relationship even when they want less do with you than ever.
Research-informed relationship skills that set your teenager up for healthy relationships for the rest of their life.
Session 2
How to Connect and How to Respond in challenging times and with challenging topics.
Deciding When to Step In and When to Step Back as they navigate their lives.
The Importance of Letting them Fail and how stepping in too much or too early may work against you.
The important distinction between Protecting and Preparing teens for their lives.
What does it cost?
$60 per persion per session or $100 for both sessions.
Learn from real families and real case examples from DJ’s decades of clinical work to develop strategies and foundations that fit your style and your family.

DJ’s background in relationship improvement methods influenced a great deal of his thinking around parent-teen relationships. Simply put, you can’t control teens - or if you do it probably won’t bode well for the long run. They need freedom and autonomy, and as one teen put it, “Controlling parents create sneaky kids.”
So, influencing them really is your best bet. And this workshop will teach you how to do it.
